Description
Blue, Pink & Black Moody Abstract Landscape, Oil on Canvas, by Contemporary British Artist, Angela Wakefield.
Art measures 12 x 10 inches
Frame measure 18 x 16 inches
An evocative abstract landscape by contemporary British artist Angela Wakefield, exploring atmosphere, light and the emotional character of the British landscape through expressive colour and gestural brushwork.
Against a deep, near-black ground, Wakefield builds the landscape through flashes of dusky pink, violet, turquoise, slate blue and luminous white. Broad, energetic marks suggest distant hills and shifting cloud formations, while a pale horizontal passage across the lower composition evokes water catching the last remaining light.
The landscape is deliberately suspended between abstraction and recognition. Mountains, water and an expansive sky appear momentarily before dissolving back into colour and movement. The darker palette gives this intimate work a particularly dramatic, almost nocturnal quality, punctuated by unexpected flashes of jewel-like colour.
Painted on an intimate scale and presented in a substantial pale frame, the work demonstrates Wakefield’s ability to translate the experience of landscape into something more instinctive and atmospheric.
Angela Wakefield has twice been on the front cover of ‘Art of England’ and featured in ARTnews, attracting international attention and critical acclaim with her urban landscape paintings of New York, London & the North of England. The style of painting has been described as ‘contemporary realism’, and is often favourably compared with Edward Hopper by collectors and art critics. Angela’s work is held in private collections in Europe and the USA, including the British Royal Family. Her admirers include leading figures in international business, filmmaking and the media.
